In a recent article from the Oregon State Wire, we learned that, in Corvallis, the homeless were being hired to count the homeless. It seems like a no-brainer but it got us thinking.
What other jobs could we provide the homeless community to help them help themselves? Could building contractors employ them to help construct shelters? Could clothing manufacturers employ them to work in their factories? Could restaurants employ them to work in their kitchens? By doing any number of these, perhaps businesses could learn from those living on the street and how to better assist them.
Or, what if the homeless could be trained in first aid, counseling, or some other relevant vocation that would help the elusive homeless community from the inside out?
Maybe some of this is already happening. If so, we'd love to hear about it. In the meantime, we'd love to hear your ideas of how someone like you can help the homeless help themselves.
